'This contribution presents preliminary results of a study conducted with gifted primary students attending extracurricular courses for the gifted. The Mannheimer Kinderakademie offers these students to unfold their special needs through different ways of learning and acquiring new knowledge. Based on the Munich Model of Giftedness and the stageenvironment-fit theory these children's socio-emotional development is observed during the academy semester 2007/08. First results indicate that the gifted primary students benefit from attending the program if they feel at ease within the academies study groups, feel below par at school and have the ability of self-regulated learning.'
