The aim of this study is to find out which are the competencies that identify a good teacher,from the perspective of students in training for the levels in early childhood education and elementary education. The research followed a qualitative approach based on groundedtheory according to the Delors report classification, on a sample of 1,588 students frompublic universities in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, Spain. The results showthat the participants mention some competencies related to the pedagogical, pragmatic, ontological, democratic, and transformative dimensions; but they do not refer to competencies related to second language, research, information and communicationtechnologies, ethics and commitment, inclusion, multiculturalism, and sustainability. El objetivo de este estudio es averiguar cuáles son las competencias que identifican al buen docente, desde la perspectiva del alumnado en forma- ción de los grados en educación infantil y educación primaria. La inves- tigación siguió un enfoque cualitativo basado en la teoría fundamentada conforme a la clasificación del informe Delors, sobre una muestra de 1 mil 588 estudiantes de universidades públicas de la Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía, España. Los resultados muestran que los participantes men- cionan algunas competencias relacionadas con las dimensiones pedagó- gica, pragmática, ontológica, democrática y transformadora; pero no se refieren a competencias relacionadas con el manejo de segunda lengua, la investigación, las tecnologías de la información y comunicación, la ética y el compromiso, la inclusión, la multiculturalidad y la sostenibilidad.
