Computerized Support for Research and Publication in Contemporary History

Abstract

Das 1956 Institut beschäftigt sich mit Forschungen zur ungarischen Geschichte nach dem 2. Weltkrieg, mit einem besonderen Schwerpunkt auf der ungarischen Revolution, die 1956 stattgefunden hat, d.h. ihrer Entstehung und ihren Folgen auch unter einer internationalen Perspektive. Seit seiner Gründung 1990 verfügt das Institut über beträchtliche Dokumentensammlungen und Daten aus Forschungen insbesondere zu dieser Periode. Nach einer kurzen Vorstellung des Instituts werde ich mich vor allem mit den folgenden Feldern befassen: Beschreibung der Datensammlungen des 1956 Institut: Oral History-Interviews, Daten zu Gerichtsverhandlungen und photographisches Datenmaterial; Entwicklung neuer, multimedialer Datenbanken; Forschung und Datensammlungen: Zugang zu privaten Datensammlungen, Verteilung von und Kontrolle über Informationen, Forschende und ihre Haltung zur (Nicht-) Zugänglichkeit von Daten; Konzept und Praxis automatisierter Datensammlung und automatisierten Zugriffs auf Informationen, die Identifizierung der Authentizität von Datenquellen; Datenbanken als wichtige Voraussetzung für die Erstellung digitaler Publikationen.

The "1956 Institute" deals with research regarding Hungarian history since the Second World War with an emphasis on the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and its development, subsequent effects and international aspects. Since its foundation in 1990, the institute has been amassing databases containing the documents gathered and used in the researches or descriptions of these documents. After briefly introducing the "1956 Institute", the paper will focus on the following problems in the process of data compilation and provision: Databases at the "1956 Institute: oral history interviews, trial records and the photographic database; Establishment of a new multimedia database; The problem of sharing individually possessed information, and of disposal and control over information; Compiling digital publications.

El "Instituto 1956" trata con investigaciones concernientes a la historia húngara a partir de la segunda guerra mundial, haciendo énfasis en la Revolución Húngara de 1956, su desarrollo, consecuencias y aspectos internacionales. Desde su fundación en 1990, el instituto ha estado acumulando bases de datos que contienen los documentos que fueron reunidos y usados en las investigaciones y descripciones de estos documentos. Después de describir brevemente al "Instituto 1956", el artículo se enfocará en los siguientes problemas del proceso de compilación y provisión de datos: Bases de datos en el "Instituto 1956": entrevistas sobre historias orales, registro de pruebas y base de datos fotográficos; establecimiento de una nueva base de datos multimedia; el problema de compartir información que se posee individualmente y de disposición y control de la información; compilación digital de publicaciones.
