Qualitative und quantitative Methoden: Positionen in der Psychologie und deren Wandel. Ein Kommentar zu Texten von Jochen Fahrenberg und Jürgen Rost

Abstract

Dies ist ein Moderations-Text zu zwei Beiträgen zur Qualitätsstandards-Debatte, die von Psychologie-Repräsentanten stammen. Die beiden Autoren haben unterschiedliche methodologische Hintergründe: Der eine vertritt eine quantitative Methodik, der andere hat (u.a.) einen interpretativ-psychologischen (qualitativen) Hintergrund. Ihre Urteile über die neuere Bewegung der qualitativen Sozialforschung sind auf überraschende Weise gegensätzlich: freundlich-lobend der eine, scharf kritisierend der andere. Eine Gegenüberstellung der beiden Positionen, ihre Verortung in disziplinären Strukturen der deutschsprachigen universitären Psychologie und ihre heuristische Kontextualisierung im Rahmen einer Yin-Yang-Philosophie sind die Schwerpunkte dieser moderierenden Einleitung.

This introduction moderates two contributions to the debate on standards of social research, each written by a representative of psychology. The two authors come from different methodological backgrounds: One represents a quantitative methodology - the other has (among others) an interpretative-psychological (qualitative) background. Their appraisal of recent movements in qualitative social research is surprisingly diverse: friendly and commendatory vs. sharply criticizing. This introduction compares the two positions, places them into disciplinary structures of psychology at German universities, and provides a heuristic contextualization of these positions in Yin-Yang Philosophy.

Esta introducción se refiere a dos aportaciones al debate sobre estándares en la investigación social, ambos escritos por un representante de la psicología. Los dos autores proceden de orígenes metodológicos diferentes: uno representa una metodología cuantitativa; y el otro tiene (entre otros) un bagaje psicológico-interpretativo (cualitativo). Sus evaluaciones de los recientes movimientos en la investigación social cualitativa son sorprendentemente diversas: favorable y elogiosa versus ácida crítica. Esta introducción compara las dos posturas, situándolas en las estructuras disciplinarias de la psicología en las universidades alemanas, y proporciona una contextualización heurística de esas posiciones en la filosofía del Yin-Yang.
