Der Beitrag untersucht und erklärt Unterschiede zwischen den alten und neuen Bundesländern hinsichtlich des Politisierungsgrades von Verwaltungseliten. Während gängige Erklärungsansätze der Politisierungsforschung hier nicht greifen, erweist sich ein bisher kaum beachteter Faktor - die primäre Sozialisation in einer spezifischen regionalen politischen Kultur - als erklärungskräftig. Demnach begründet die stärker konsensdemokratisch geprägte politische Kultur der neuen Bundesländer eine geringere Nähe der dort sozialisierten Spitzenbeamt*innen zur Politik. The article examines and explains differences between the old (West) and new (East) federal states in Germany in regard to the level of their top civil servants' politicization. While we cannot resort to established argumentations, a so far rather underrepresented factor in this context - primary socialization and political culture - shows to be significant. According to this, the more strongly consensusoriented political culture in East Germany causes a lesser affinity to political activity in civil servants.
