Wir diskutieren die Darstellung von Sextouristinnen anhand der in diesem Kontext zentralen Filme Vers le sud (FR/CA/BE 2005) und Paradies: Liebe (AT/DE/FR 2012). Trotz formaler Unterschiede werden in beiden Filmen zahlreiche Differenzen zwischen Touristinnen und lokalen Männern (u. a. hinsichtlich race, age, economic background) eingesetzt, um zu suggerieren, dass die dargestellten Beziehungen ausschließlich monetär und zum Scheitern verurteilt wären. Statt auf die sexuelle und geschlechtliche Transgression der Touristinnen zu fokussieren, rekurrieren die Filme so auf vergeschlechtlichte Narrative des Scheiterns. Damit werden im Bestreben, globale Beziehungen als ambivalentes Machtgefüge kritisch auszustellen, konventionelle Geschlechterbilder einmal mehr affirmiert.... view less

We discuss the representation of female sex tourists in two pivotal movies, Vers le sud (FR/CA/BE 2005) and Paradies: Liebe (AT/DE/FR 2012). Despite their formal dissimilarities, the films make use of numerous differences between the female tourists and the local men (regarding, e.g., race, age, economic background) to suggest that their relationships are exclusively monetary and doomed to fail. Instead of focusing on the sexual and gender transgressions of women tourists, the films resort to gendered narratives of failure. Thus, in an effort to expose global relationships as an ambivalent power structure, conventional gender images are once again affirmed.... view less
