Der Beitrag zeichnet den Entstehungsprozess von Governance-Strukturen in der "Metropolregion Mitteldeutschland" in den Jahren 2013 und 2014 nach, die entscheidend waren für die noch heute tragenden Strukturen. Rahmenbedingungen für diesen Prozess waren der Anspruch länderübergreifender Strukturen, die starke Überlagerung bereits bestehender institutioneller Arrangements sowie deren schwache institutionelle Koppelung. Bestimmend waren weiterhin die räumliche Konsolidierung und institutionelle Neustrukturierung der Metropolregion im Zuge der Fusionierung mit der Wirtschaftsinitiative für Mitteldeutschland GmbH im Jahr 2014. Zunächst werden die bestehenden Governance-Strukturen zu Beginn dieses Prozesses dargelegt und bewertet sowie drei Szenarien zur Institutionalisierung der Metropolregion aus dem Jahr 2013 beschrieben. This article traces the development of governance structures in the Metropolitan Region Central Germany in the years 2013 and 2014, which were decisive for the structures that are still in place today. Framework conditions for this process were the demand for cross-border structures, the strong overlapping of already existing institutional arrangements and their weak institutional link-ages. The spatial consolidation and institutional restructuring of the metropolitan region in the course of the merger with the Wirtschaftsinitiative für Mitteldeutschland GmbH in 2014 continued to be decisive. Initially, the existing governance structures at the beginning of this process are pre-sented and evaluated and three scenarios for the institutionalisation of the metropolitan region from 2013 are described.
