Abstract

Das Jahr 1968 wird gemeinhin mit der Überwindung überkommener Gesellschaftsstrukturen und dem Entree des bürgerrechtlichen Fortschritts verbunden. Doch dieses Datum war nicht Ausgangs-, sondern vielmehr Kulminationspunkt politischen und sozialen Wandels. Denn vieles von dem, was sich mit der Chiffre "68" verbindet, begann schon vorher. 1964 verdichteten sich zahlreiche Ereignisse zu einer Zäsur, die den gesellschaftlichen Umbruch schon vor 1968 einläutete. Mit dem Blick auf unterschiedliche Episoden aus Gesellschaft und Politik hinterfragt dieser Band den bisherigen Stellenwert von "68" und weist nach, dass ein erheblicher Teil der mentalen Modernisierung schon viel früher stattfand.
