Living-Apart-Together-Beziehungen (LATs, Paarbeziehungen ohne gemeinsamen Haushalt) sind aus verschiedenen Gründen ein zentrales Element der Jugendphase geworden. Die Forschung zu LATs im Jugendalter befindet sich im Schnittfeld unterschiedlicher Forschungsgebiete, deren jeweiligen Forschungsergebnisse in diesem Beitrag zunächst zusammengefasst werden, woraus verschiedene zu erwartende LAT-Typen abgeleitet werden können. Anschließend werden in einer Sequenzdatenanalyse mit Daten der 1. Welle des Pairfams für Lebensläufe von 14 und 25 Jahren Typen von Partnerschaftsverläufen identifiziert. Das führt teilweise zur Bestätigung, aber auch zur Modifikation und Ergänzung der aus dem Forschungsstand abgeleiteten Annahmen zu LATs von Jugendlichen. Zentral ist, dass die LAT häufig als Vorstufe zu einer Kohabitation auftritt, in dieser Form aber von unterschiedlicher Bedeutung sein kann. Living Apart Together relationships (LAT, couples without a common household) have become a central partnership form in young people's lifes for various reasons. In this article, we first summarize results on LATs among youth from different fields of research, from which we derive different types of expected LATs. Secondly, we explore different types of LAT partnerships with the means of sequence analysis using data of the first wave of the German Family Panel (Pairfam). Our results show, that the LAT is often a prelude to other partnership forms among youth, even though with different meanings for the respondents. In contrary to assumptions in the literature, we however also find evidence, that the LAT is the ideal and therefore durable living arrangement for some youth.... view less
