Der labeling approach muß sich immer wieder der berechtigten Kritik aussetzen, den Handlungs-begriff auf dessen intentionale - über das Bewußtsein der Handelnden vermittelte - Dimension zu reduzieren. Die neuere interaktionstheoretische Diskussion bietet die Möglichkeit, Dimensionen der Interaktion in den Griff zu bekommen, von denen der Handelnde nichts weiß, obschon sein Handeln danach strukturiert ist. Auf der Grundlage dieser Diskussion läßt sich ein theoretisches Konzept von Handlungskompetenz entwickeln, welches Konsequenzen struktureller Unterprivilegierung innerhalb konkreter Interaktionssituationen analytisch aufdeckt. Am Beispiel der Interaktion zwischen Polizei und Tatverdächtigen werden Möglichkeiten der operationalisierung aufgewiesen.... view less

Again and again critics quite legitimitely state that the labeling approach reduces the concept of action to its intentional dimension, i.e. it can only conceive of action as mediated through the consciouness of actors. Recent developments in the theory of interaction offer the chance to cope with those dimensions of interaction that are unknown to the actor although structuring his actual behavior. From that foundation one can develop a theoretical concept of interactional competence by means of which the consequences of actors being structurally underprivileged in actual situations of interaction can be discovers analytically.
