Internationale Frauenrechte - Frauenbewegungen stärken: Tagung vom 14.-17. November 2008 in Kapstadt

Abstract

"Weltweit setzen sich Frauenrechtsorganisationen dafür ein, die Rechtslage von Mädchen und Frauen zu verbessern. Sie haben erreicht, dass zahlreiche internationale Abkommen verabschiedet wurden. Deren Umsetzung auf nationaler und lokaler Ebene ist jedoch schwierig. Vielerorts versuchen politische und religiöse Machthaber, die Verwirklichung von Frauenrechten mit allen Mitteln zu hintertreiben. Deshalb sind Austausch und Vernetzung zwischen den Frauenrechtlerinnen wichtig. Die Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) zielt darauf ab, den Dialog zwischen den Aktivistinnen zu fördern. Im dreijährigen Rhythmus organisiert AWID große internationale Foren, auf denen Vertreterinnen von Frauenorganisationen aus allen Kontinenten Strukturprobleme und Gegenstrategien erörtern. Dieser Beitrag stellt zentrale Herausforderungen vor, die über 2000 Frauenrechtsaktivistinnen in Kapstadt diskutierten." (Autorenreferat)

"All over the world, women's organisations try to improve the legal situation of women and girls. They succeeded in that many international norms were passed. Nevertheless the implementation of these agreements on national and local levels is still a challenge. All over the world, political and religious authorities try to prevent the realization of women’s rights. Therefore the exchange and networking of women's rights activists is very important. The Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) aims at improving the dialogue among activists. Every third year AWID organizes a big international forum for debates. Representatives of women's organisations from all continents meet there and discuss structural difficulties and problem solving strategies. This article explains those central topics on which more than 2000 women's rights activists were focusing at last year's conference in Cape Town." (author's abstract)
