In der Abschwungsphase der touristischen Entwicklung - Fallbeispiel Bayerisch Eisenstein

Abstract

"Das Ziel dieses Beitrags besteht in der Untersuchung der touristischen Entwicklung in einer Gemeinde, in der der Tourismus früher eine große Bedeutung hatte, jedoch seine beherrschende Funktion eingebüßt hat. Bayerisch Eisenstein am Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald gehört zu den 'schrumpfenden' Tourismusdestinationen in Deutschland – gekennzeichnet durch die Abnahme der Beherbergungsbetriebe, Gästeankünfte und Übernachtungen. Dennoch ist der Tourismus – in abgeschwächter Form – als eines der strukturbestimmenden ökonomischen Merkmale der Gemeinde auszumachen. Gemeinsam mit den Inhabern von Beherbergungs- und Gastronomiebetrieben sowie weiteren Expertinnen und Experten wird die touristische Bedeutung und Entwicklung der Gemeinde erfasst und bewertet. Die empirischen Befunde zeigen einen Bedeutungsverlust des Tourismus und eine Phase des touristischen Abschwungs in Bayerisch Eisenstein. Angebotsseitige Gründe sind beispielsweise das Fehlen großer 'Leitbetriebe' und das Konkurrenz- und Neiddenken vieler Betreiber von Beherbergungsbetrieben. Aber auch die Orientierung an den 'alten' Zielgruppen und die zunehmende Überalterung von Gästen und touristischen Akteuren vor Ort sind zu berücksichtigen. Der Beitrag schließt mit einigen Gedanken zur weiteren touristischen Entwicklung in Bayerisch Eisenstein." (Autorenreferat)

"This paper investigates the development of tourism in a municipality in which tourism used to be of great significance but has since lost its commanding role. Bayerisch Eisenstein in the National Park of the Bavarian Forest is one of the 'shrinking' tourist destinations in Germany – characterised by decline in accommodation providers, numbers of visitors and overnight stays. Nonetheless tourism – in its weakened form – can be identified as one of economic factors that determines the structure of the municipality. Together with the proprietors of accommodation and restaurants, and other experts, the touristic significance and development of the municipality is assessed and evaluated. The empirical findings demonstrate a loss in significance of tourism and a phase of touristic downturn in Bayerisch Eisenstein. Supply-based reasons for this include the lack of large attractions and the competitive and envious thinking of many of those who provide accommodation. However, the orientation on 'old' target groups and the increasing superannuation of guests and local touristic actors should also be considered. The paper closes with thoughts on the further development of tourism in Bayerisch Eisenstein." (author's abstract)
