(ICD)... view less

'Since the middle of the 19th century (and before the audiovisual media had been developed) the public opinion was formed mainly through the medium of the daily press; as a social socialization instance to an increasing extent it had influence in the production and contribution of proposals of political culture. There are numerous intra- and extra-medial factors which affect the production of the daily paper: political organisations, proprietors and investors, the editorial staff and even the reader. These factors are investigated by researching cultural indicators in the context of Institutional Processed Analysis, and by confronting them with the resulting content (Message System Analysis). With the help of the database of the daily press of Vienna, presented in this article, with systematically compiled regional studies, there has been development the basis both for the analysis of structural development of the media subsystem daily press since 1889, and (at present for the period between 1918-1938) for its personnel and institutional dimensions.'
