Jahrhundert. (ICIÜbers) %X 'This paper presents the fractional integrated processes which are the main models used to describe long memory phenomena (section 1). Section 2 defines briefly the concept of fractional integration, shows its main properties and provides an overview of the estimation techniques. A survey of their extensions in order to model the cyclical long term movement is provided in section 3. Section 4 consists of an application to socio-economic time series for France and Germany in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.'
