'In 1980, Alvin Toffler invented the new term 'prosumer', a combination of the two words producer and consumer. A prosumer represents a consumer, proactively engaged in finishing the production of special goods or services. For that reason, he or she can be seen as a co-producer. This phenomenon receives additional attention in times of the internet economy? the catch-word is Web 2.0. Because of special innovations in the field of internet technologies, the chances of participation for consumers improved drastically. Web 2.0 invites consumer contributions for more inventions, with the consequence that the prosumer movement increases continuously in size and influence.' (author's abstract)|... view less
