Starting from a pragmatic and action theory-based concept of culture it is shown how cultural preconditions appear in an autobiographical narrative interview with a Japanese potter. In this connection it is explained which narrative pattern and which semantics are used by the narrator to enact his self. This pattern implies to embed the self into social networks and to make decisions always in social contexts. This narrative pattern enables the narrator to set up a tension between the narrative construction of the past self and the present successful artist.... view less

Ausgehend von einem pragmatisch-handlungstheoretischen Kulturbegriff wird gezeigt, wie die kulturellen Vorgaben in einem lebensgeschichtlichen Interview mit einem japanischen Kunsttöpfer in Erscheinung treten. Hierbei wird deutlich, welcher Erzählmuster und Semantiken sich der Erzähler bedient, um sein Selbst durch die Erzählung zu inszenieren. Sichtbar wird auch, dass der Erzähler stets sein Selbst in soziale Zusammenhänge einbettet und Entscheidungen in Einklang mit der sozialen Umgebung trifft. Dieses Erzählmuster erlaubt ihm, eine Spannung zwischen dem narrativ dargestellten vergangenen Selbst und dem gegenwärtigen erfolgreichen Künstler aufzubauen, was zum Gelingen der Erzählung wesentlich beiträgt.... view less
