"Some debates about the future of paid labor focus an the fact that the impact of 'subjective' actions and interpretations of the individuals in the work process increases. We conceptualize this development as 'subjectivation of work'. This term implies a historical process of an intensification of the interdependencies between individuals and their work: Individuals carry more 'subjective' input (properties, opinions, motivations, and demands) into work, and work increasingly demands input of 'subjective' factors (e.g. self-organization, creativity, emotions, motivations) from the individuals. In this paper, relevant fields of sociological research will be reviewed in order to grasp central aspects of the 'subjectivation of work' process. The goal is a more precise understanding of the concept and a critical assessment of the process. The paper concludes with an assessment of changed qualities in the interdependency between working individuals and the work process and its impacts for society." (author's abstract)... view less
