Abstract	'Der Bergbau im deutschen Kaiserreich war geprägt durch eine hohe Mortalität insbesondere unter den jugendlichen Bergarbeitern. Neben den allgemein schlechten Arbeitsbedingungen waren hierfür vornehmlich soziologische Parameter verantwortlich: Einerseits Fragen der Betriebsorganisation (Ausbildung, Hierarchien), andererseits um die spezifische Lebenswelt der Jungbergleute. Innerhalb der bergmännischen Kultur entwickelten sich unterschiedliche Formen der Reaktion auf den (vorzeitigen) Tod. Dies zeigt sich besonders in den 'Bewältigungsstrategien', die von der Interpretation als gottgewolltem Schicksal über anklagende Wut bis hin zur Wahrnehmung als soldatischem Heldentum bewegten.' (Autorenreferat) 'The mining industry in the German Empire was shaped by high mortality rates among the young miners. Apart from the generally bad working conditions for this in particular sociological parameters were responsible: On the one hand questions of the operational organization (vocational training, hierarchies), on the other hand the specific environment of the young miners. Within the mining culture different forms of the reaction to (premature) death developed. This shows up in particular in 'the mastering strategies', which ranged from the spectrum of God-intended fate, accusing rage up to military heroism.' (author's abstract)
