(Autorenreferat)... view less

'The paper contributes to the discussion whether computer-assisted content analysis based on co-occurrence analysis can replace dictionary based-approaches. Both approaches are described briefly before we turn to consider frequently cited advantages of the co-occurrence approach. Coverage of the war in Iraq in German and American newspapers provides the basis for a demonstration of the co-occurrence approach. Using the program Catpac, a typical analysis procedure is described step by step. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of the approach are summarized and discussed.'
