Control narrativo y gubernamentalidad: La producción de coherencia en las narrativas identitarias. El caso de profesionales chilenos adultos jóvenes en condiciones de vinculación laboral flexible

Abstract

In diesem Beitrag analysieren wir die narrativen Kontrollmechanismen, mit denen Kohärenz in der Exposition persönlicher Erzählungen hergestellt wird. Wir setzen uns dabei auch mit der Frage auseinander, wie diese persönlichen Erzählungen funktionieren, um Selbstkonstruktionen in Relation zu Attributen zu kreieren, die durch flexible Arbeitsverhältnisse erforderlich werden. Hierzu wurde eine Diskursanalyse mit 32 Arbeitsinterviews mit weiblichen und männlichen jungen Professionellen aus Chile durchgeführt. Ein zentraler Aspekt der Erzählungen ist es, sich selbst als erfolgreiche und geschäftstüchtige Person zu präsentieren. Zugleich zeigt die Kohärenz der so konstruierten Bilder spezifische Brüche, die dieser Selbstkonstruktion entgegenstehen. Sobald die Erzählenden dieser Brüche gewahr werden, versuchen sie, die kohärente Gestalt ihrer Erzählung "zu reparieren". Mit Blick auf diese narrativen Kohärenzmechanismen versuchen wir – unter Einbezug der dialogischen Theorie und diskursiven Psychologie BAKHTINs – zu zeigen, in welcher Weise diese narrative Konstruktionen spezifische Kontrollpraktiken involvieren, mittels derer Personen unterschiedliche Selbstbezüge mit Gouvernementalitätsstrategien zeitgenössischer Gesellschaften verknüpfen. Mit unserer Studie wollen wir zu aktuellen Diskussionen beitragen, wie die komplexe Beziehung zwischen Narration, Identität und sozialer Organisation empirisch gehandhabt werden kann.

Este texto aborda los mecanismos de control narrativo que generan coherencia en la elaboración de las historias personales y cómo funcionan para articular esa construcción con las demandas sociales actuales que exigen a los sujetos ser según ciertos atributos. Se consideró el análisis discursivo de 32 entrevistas a profesionales adultos jóvenes hombres y mujeres en condiciones de vinculación laboral flexible en Chile. Un aspecto central en estas narraciones es el presentarse a sí mismo como sujeto emprendedor exitoso. Sin embargo a lo largo de las narraciones, la coherencia de esta imagen construida en el relato tiende a mostrar fisuras que podrían rebatir esa constitución. Ante esto el sujeto narrador rápidamente repara el relato con el fin de mantener esa coherencia. Es este mecanismo de coherencia narrativa el que centrará nuestra atención, mostrando cómo las construcciones narrativas de sí contienen prácticas de control que conectan las formas de narrarnos a nosotros mismos con las estrategias de gobierno de las sociedades contemporánea. Para esto nos serviremos tanto de la teoría dialógica de BAJTIN como de la psicología discursiva. Con esto se pretende aportar en la discusión contemporánea en torno a cómo abordar empíricamente las complejas relaciones entre narratividad, identidad y ordenamiento social.

In this paper we analyse the narrative control mechanisms which generate coherence in the elaboration of personal stories presented by professional individuals working under flexible employment conditions. We also examine how these personal stories function to articulate constructions of self in relation to attributes demanded by the conditions associated with patterns of flexible working. A discourse analysis of 32 job interviews with male and female young adult professionals in flexible employment in Chile was undertaken. One of the main aspects of the narratives is a general tendency to present oneself as a successful and enterprising individual. However, the coherence of the image constructed in the account tends to show certain fissures that may refute that constitution. When the narrator realizes the latter, he/she quickly tries to repair the account in order to maintain this coherence. Focusing our attention on this narrative coherence mechanism, and drawing on BAKHTIN's dialogical theory and discursive psychology, we demonstrate how these self narrative constructions involve certain control practices that connect the different forms people use to refer to themselves with the governmental strategies of contemporary societies. Through this analysis we intend to contribute to current discussions of how to empirically deal with the complex relation observed among narrative, identity and social organization.
