Review: Stefan Frerichs (2000). Bausteine einer systemischen Nachrichtentheorie. Konstruktives Chaos und chaotische Konstruktionen

Abstract

Das Buch bietet eine spannende Analyse des Nachrichtengeschäfts aus einem wagemutigen Betrachtungswinkel. Klassische Modelle zur Nachrichtenauswahl und -verarbeitung werden als nicht ausreichend kritisiert, um bestimmte Phänomene zu erklären. Dazu zählen unerwartete und sprunghafte Ereignisabläufe sowie eine unberechenbare Nachrichtengestaltung. Mit Hilfe "chaostheoretischer" Begriffe wird ein neuer Theoriehorizont entworfen. Der Autor hat möglicherweise die Tür zu einer neuen Sichtweise aufgestoßen, um Vorgänge in der Verarbeitung und Rezeption von Nachrichten zu interpretieren. Eine Vertiefung oder gar eine empirische Überprüfung der neuen Sicht bleibt allerdings anderen Arbeiten vorbehalten.

The book provides an analysis of the news-industry from a rather fresh point of view. Well-established models like the gate-keeper or agenda-setting-model are criticized as insufficient to deal, for example, with the phenomenon of unexpected incidents. By the means of chaos-theory the author examines the production of news and the organization of editorial staffs. He opens the door for a rethinking of the journalist's and editor's work. However, there is no empirical support and no in-depth-analysis of a chaos-conceptual news-theory.

El libro ofrece un análisis del negocio de las noticias desde un punto de vista audaz. Se critica los modelos clásicos sobre la elección y elaboración de noticias como no suficientes para explicar determinados fenómenos. Para eso cuentan incidentes inesperados e inconstantes como también la incalculable estructuración de una noticia. Con ayuda de conceptos de la teoría del caos se bosqueja un nuevo horizonte teórico. El autor ha abierto la puerta hacia una nueva manera de ver para interpretar procesos en la elaboración y recepción de noticias. Una profundización o incluso un examen empírico de la nueva visión permanece por cierto reservado para otro libro.
