Wenn "wir selbst" zu unserem Forschungsfeld werden

Abstract

In unserem aktuellen Forschungsprojekt versuchen wir eine Kulturwissenschaft der Kulturwissenschaften, wenden dabei kulturwissenschaftliche Instrumentarien auf Kulturwissenschaften an und machen uns gewissermaßen selbst zum Forschungsfeld. Da kann jede Menge passieren – einiges davon sprechen wir hier an. Und wir möchten für uns (bislang) wesentliche Erkenntnisse der Arbeit in diesem spezifischen Forschungszusammenhang zur Diskussion stellen: Der Umgang mit biographischem Material ist prinzipiell heikel, man hat es mit Menschen zu tun, Beziehungen entstehen. Weder der gesellschaftliche Status der beforschten Personen noch Nähen oder Distanzen unterschiedlicher Art können für das Maß an Verantwortungsgefühl dabei ausschlaggebend sein. Auf der Repräsentationsebene bedeutet das, Produkte zu erzeugen, die für alle Beteiligten, also auch für die Beforschten, zumutbar sind. Wissenschaft ist also Interaktion – dieses Postulat impliziert für uns weiter, nicht Wissenschaftsforschung für Wissenschaftsforschung betreiben zu wollen, wenngleich wir uns in diese Diskurse einklinken (möchten). Wichtig ist uns, Wissenschaftsforschung in unseren wissenschaftlichen Alltag einfließen zu lassen, sie umzusetzen – z.B. in Teamarbeit, in Lehrveranstaltungen, in Wissenschaftsorganisation und -kommunikation. Diese Interaktionen wiederum wirken auf das Forschungsprojekt zurück – sie lenken unsere Aufmerksamkeit auf bestimmte Themen, verweisen uns auf Relevanzen und Gewichtungen, machen uns sensibel für Tabus.

In our current research project, we do cultural research on cultural research. In doing so we apply cultural research-instruments to ourselves and thereby constitute ourselves as a field of research. We describe some of the incidents that can occur in such an ambivalent situation, focussing on the following (which appears to us as the most significant output of our work in this special context of research so far): This kind of research will always be a sensitive one when dealing with biographical material. Since one has to deal with humans, "naturally" relationships develop along the way. Neither the social status of the persons explored, nor closeness or distance to them should affect the results or the degree of responsibility felt towards to them. The representations resulting from this research ought to be salient to all participants, including the researcher and the researched. Research is an interaction—this assertion implies for us that we do not want to study sciences for the purpose of science studies, even if we (would) like to put our work into these discourses. It is important to us to transmit our research into our everyday academic life, put our findings into action—in teamwork, in teaching, in organisation and communication of research. These interactions also have a reflexive effect on our research project—they draw our attention to certain topics, help us set priorities and make us aware of taboos.

En nuestro actual proyecto de investigación, hacemos investigación cultural sobre la investigación cultural. Al hacerlo así aplicamos los instrumentos de la investigación cultural a nosotros mismos y de esta forma nos constituimos como campo de investigación. Describimos algunos de los incidentes que pueden ocurrir en tal situación ambivalente, enfocándonos en lo siguiente (que nos parece hasta ahora el más significativo resultado de nuestro trabajo en este contexto especial): Este tipo de investigación será siempre sensible cuando trata con material biográfico. Dado que uno tiene que tratar con humanos, "naturalmente" se desarrollan relaciones en el trayecto. Ni el status social de las personas exploradas, ni la cercanía o distancia debe afectar los resultados o el grado de responsabilidad sentida hacia ellas. Las representaciones que resultan de la investigación deben ser relevantes para todos los participantes, incluyendo al investigador y lo investigado. La investigación es una interacción; lo cual implica que nosotros no queremos estudiar ciencias solo por los propósitos de la ciencia, aún si quisiéramos inscribir nuestro trabajo en discursos tales, lo que importa para nosotros es transmitir nuestra investigación vida académica diaria, poner nuestros hallazgos en acción, en equipo, en la enseñanza, en la organización y en la comunicación de la investigación. Estas interacciones también tienen un efecto reflexivo sobre nuestro proyecto de investigación, al llamar nuestra atención sobre ciertos temas, nos ayuda a reunir prioridades y nos hace concientes sobre los tabúes.
