The Reflexive Nature of Reading as Ethnographic Practice: Editorial Note

Abstract

In diesem Editorial schlage ich vor, das Lesen publizierter Texte nicht nur als Betreiben von Ethnographie zu verstehen, sondern darüber hinausgehend konkretisiert sich das Lesen auch in der Produktion von neuen Texten, und in diesem Prozess werden die kulturellen Praktiken reproduziert, die in den gelesenen Texten analysiert wurden. Als ethnographische Methode ist das Lesen ein reflexives Projekt. Ich skizziere einen dialektischen Ansatz, der diese reflexive Natur des Lesens theoretisiert.

In this editorial, I suggest that not only is reading published texts a way of doing ethno­graph­ic research, but also reading concretely realizes itself in the productions of new texts that reproduce the cultural practices that are analyzed in the published text. Reading as ethnographic method is therefore a reflexive project. I provide a dialectical framework for theorizing the reflexive nature of reading.

En este editorial sugiero que no solamente la lectura de textos publicados es una forma de hacer investigación etnográfica, sino que la lectura misma realiza la producción de nuevos textos que reproducen las prácticas culturales que son analizadas en el texto publicado. La lectura como método etnográfico, entonces, es un proyecto reflexivo. Proporciono un marco de trabajo dialéctico para teorizar sobre la naturaleza reflexiva de la lectura.
