Abstract

CHENAIL und LICHTMAN setzen sich mit der Entwicklung der qualitativen Forschung in den USA seit Beginn der 1990er Jahre auseinander. CHENAIL beschreibt sich dabei eher als Forscher, der sich grundsätzlich qualitativer Methodologie verpflichtet fühlt ("generic qualitative researcher") denn als Forscher, der einer bestimmten Schule oder einem bestimmten Forschungsstil folgt ("designer qualitative researcher"). Das vorliegende Interview lässt die Entwicklung qualitativer Forschung hin zu einer akzeptierten und leitenden Forschungsmethodologie in vielen Disziplinen – auch im Bereich der Familientherapie und Erziehung, der Krankenpflege und in der Wirtschaft – Revue passieren. Dabei bezieht CHENAIL sich auch auf verschiedene methodische Innovationen wie etwa ZALTMANs "metaphor elicitation technique" (ZMET), MISHELERs "exemplars" und auf einen Industrie-Freizeit-Forschungspark. Die Beiträge von CHENAIL als Herausgeber und treibende Kraft des "Qualitative Report" sind beachtlich und weitreichend.

CHENAIL and LICHTMAN explore how the field of qualitative research has developed in the United States since the early 1990s. CHENAIL characterizes himself as a generic qualitative re­searcher rather than a designer qualitative re­searcher. We reminisce about how qualitative re­search has become an accepted form of con­ducting research in many disciplines, including family therapy, education, nursing, and business; we talk about how we were barely heard in those early days. CHENAIL discusses some of the new ideas in qualitative research such as ZALTMAN's metaphor elicitation technique, MISHLER's exem­plars, and a combination industrial--amusement research park. As the Editor and driving force of The Qualitative Report, CHENAIL's contributions are substantial and far-reaching.
