Die Metaphernanalyse ist ein etablierter Teil der qualitativen Sozialforschung. Weil dem so ist, wird hier das aktuelle Buch von Peter ADAMS, einem Psychologen aus Neuseeland, der sich seit Jahren um die Erneuerung der Rhetorik bemüht, zum Anlass genommen, über die Macht von Metaphern nachzudenken. Zu diesem Zweck werden zuerst die Thesen von Peter ADAMS vorgestellt, der entschieden die Position vertritt, dass Metaphern Akteure eigener Art sind, dass sie sich mit anderen Metaphern verbinden können und dann zu Monster-Metaphern heranwachsen, die nicht nur das Denken, sondern auch das Handeln der Menschen formen. Metaphor analysis is an established part of qualitative social research. Therefore, the current book by Peter ADAMS, a psychologist from New Zealand who has been working for years on the renewal of rhetoric, is taken here as an opportunity to reflect on the power of metaphors. First, I will outline the author's theory that metaphors are actors of their own kind, that metaphors can combine with other metaphors and then grow into "monster metaphors" that shape not only people's thoughts but also their actions.
