Erfahrungen mit der Sekundärnutzung von qualitativem Datenmaterial - erste Ergebnisse einer schriftlichen Befragung im Rahmen der Machbarkeitsstudie zur Archivierung und Sekundärnutzung qualitativer Interviewdaten

Abstract

Die Akquisition und Bereitstellung quantitativer Forschungsdaten sowie deren kontinuierliche Aufbereitung und Dokumentation sind Kernaufgaben des Zentralarchivs für Empirische Sozialforschung in Köln. Eine vergleichbare Institution, die bundesweit qualitatives Datenmaterial systematisch sammelt, archiviert, dokumentiert und einer wissenschaftlichen Sekundärnutzung zuführt, gibt es in Deutschland derzeit nicht. Die Archivierung des Materials liegt allein in der Verantwortung des einzelnen Forschers. Häufig lagern die Daten im Büro oder zu Hause, wo sie im Regelfall für andere nicht zugänglich sind und der dauerhafte Verbleib ungewiss ist. Vor diesem Hintergrund fördert die DFG ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt des Archivs für Lebenslaufforschung der Graduate School of Social Sciences (Universität Bremen) und des Zentralarchivs für Empirische Sozialforschung an der Universität zu Köln, das die Machbarkeit einer Serviceinfrastruktur für die Archivierung und Weitergabe qualitativer Forschungsdaten untersucht und überprüft, welche Anforderungen die scientific community an den Aufbau einer solchen Infrastruktur stellt. Der vorliegende Artikel stellt zunächst die Machbarkeitsstudie vor, um dann erste Ergebnisse einer im Rahmen des Projektes durchgeführten schriftlichen Befragung zu präsentieren. Dabei werden wir insbesondere auf verschiedene Aspekte der bisherigen Praxis von Sekundärnutzung qualitativer Daten eingehen.

Acquisition and provision of quantitative research data as well as preparation and documentation of this data are principal tasks of the Central Archive for Empirical Social Research. A comparable institution, which systematically collects, archives, documents and provides qualitative data for secondary use on a national level does not currently exist in Germany. It is the sole responsibility of each researcher to take care of his/her own research material. In many cases data is kept in offices or at home, where it is generally not accessible to others and the long-term data preservation is uncertain. On the basis of these considerations, the German Research Foundation (DFG) financed a cooperation project of the Life Course Archive at the Graduate School of Social Sciences (University Bremen) and the Central Archive for Empirical Social Research (ZA), University of Cologne to explore the possibilities of providing an infrastructure for archiving qualitative data and to find out the needs of the scientific community for such an infrastructure. This article first introduces the feasibility study and then presents first results of a survey carried out within the project. In this context we will focus on different aspects of the practical experiences with the secondary use of qualitative data.

Las tareas principales del Archivo Central para la Investigación Empírica Social son obtener y proveer de datos de investigación cuantitativos así como preparar y documentar esos datos. Una institución comparable, que sistemáticamente reúna, archive, documente y provea datos cualitativos para la utilización secundaria a nivel nacional no existe en Alemania actualmente. Esto convierte en responsabilidad exclusiva de cada investigador el tener cuidado de su propio material de investigación. En muchos casos, esos datos son guardados en oficinas o en sus casas, donde no es generalmente accesible a otros y su conservación es incierta. Partiendo de estas consideraciones, la Fundación de Investigación Alemana (DFG) financió un proyecto de cooperación del Archivo del Curso de Vida en la Escuela de Graduados de Ciencias Sociales (Universidad Bremen) y el Archivo Central para la Investigación Empírica Social (ZA) en la Universidad de Colonia para explorar la posibilidad de proporcionar una infraestructura para archivar datos cualitativos y averiguar las demandas de la comunidad científica para tal infraestructura. Este artículo introduce primero el estudio de viabilidad y luego presenta los primeros resultados de una revisión realizada dentro del proyecto. En este contexto, enfocaremos los diferentes aspectos de las experiencias prácticas con la utilización secundaria de datos cualitativos.
