Interpretative Visual Analysis: Developments, State of the Art and Pending Problems

Abstract

Der Beitrag gibt eine kurze Zusammenfassung der jüngeren Entwicklung im Bereich der visuellen interpretativen Analyse, mit besonderem Gewicht auf den deutschsprachigen Raum und auf die Soziologie. Sein Hauptfokus liegt auf der hermeneutischen und gattungsanalytischen Forschung mit audiovisuellen Daten. Angesichts eines alles andere als bereits klar umrissenen Feldes betonen die Autoren den Umstand, dass der methodologische Fortschritt in der Forschung mit audiovisuellen Daten sich mit einer Reihe von anhängigen Fragen konfrontiert sieht. Sie betreffen unter anderem die Sequenzialität, Komplexität und Natürlichkeit von Videodaten sowie methodische Herausforderungen für die Transkription, Analyse und Präsentation der Ergebnisse.

he article offers a brief resume of recent developments in the field of interpretative visual analysis with emphasis on the German speaking area and the sociological discipline. It lays a special focus on hermeneutical and genre analysis and on research with audiovisual data. Far from constituting an already closed field, the authors stress the fact that methodological advances in qualitative research based in visual data still face a number of pending quests. This encompasses sequentiality, complexity and naturalness of videographic data, and extends to the respective methodological challenges for transcription, analysis and presentation of results.

El artículo ofrece un breve resumen del desarrollo reciente en el campo del análisis visual interpretativo, concentrándose en el ámbito germano parlante y en la sociología. Su enfoque principal se centra en el análisis hermenéutico y el análisis de géneros comunicativos con respecto a datos audiovisuales. Lejos de representar un campo ya claramente circunscrito, los autores enfatizan el hecho de que los avances metodológicos en la investigación cualitativa basada en datos visuales todavía enfrentan una serie de retos pendientes. Esto incluye, entre otros, la secuencialidad, complejidad y naturalidad de datos videográficos, a los que se unen los respectivos retos metodológicos de la transcripción, el análisis y la presentación de los resultados.
