Review Essay: Turn, turn, turn around – bis die Konturen verschwimmen

Abstract

Das Buch stelle ich zunächst in seinem offen zutage liegenden Inhalt ausführlich vor (Abschnitt 2.1), und bespreche jedes Kapitel, inklusive der Einleitung und des Ausblicks. Insbesondere auf das Vorgehen der Autorin bei der Darstellung der Entwicklungen der Neuorientierungen richte ich das Augenmerk und trage die zentralen Namen und Begriffe eines jeweiligen turns zusammen. Im Anschluss daran lese und diskutiere ich das Buch erneut, diesmal jedoch hinsichtlich seines impliziten Inhaltes, den ich für den wichtigeren in diesem Zusammenhang halte (Abschnitt 2.2). Dabei werde ich unweigerlich auf wissenschaftspolitische Fragestellungen bis hin zu hegemonialen Ansprüchen zu sprechen kommen müssen. Und schließlich unterziehe ich das Buch in einem dritten Durchgang (Abschnitt 3) sowohl einer kritischen Lektüre im Blick auf einzelwissenschaftliche Positionen (Psychologie, Soziologie, Theologie) als auch einer kritischen Lektüre unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Güte wissenschaftlicher Leistungen. Schließlich werde ich begründet die Lektüre des Buches nicht empfehlen (Abschnitt 4).

I begin this review by introducing the book and discussing its manifest content chapter by chapter (see 2.1), focusing particularly on the author's argumentation concerning the development of new orientations in cultural studies and on how, in relation to the turns discussed, the names of the researchers and central categories involved are collected. In a second step, I give a close reading of the book's latent content, which I consider to be more important (see 2.2). In this context I discuss several questions of scientific politics—especially the issue of hegemonic claims. Thirdly, I read the book from the critical standpoint of a psychologist, a sociologist and a theologian and show the shortcomings of BACHMANN-MEDICK's outsider perspective on these disciplines. In this regard I read the book again and provide a critique of the quality of the author's scientific performance (see 3). Finally, I state the reasons I do not recommend reading this book (see 4).

Inicio esta revisión presentando el libro y discutiendo su contenido manifiesto capítulo por capítulo (ver 2.1), enfocando los argumentos del autor acerca del desarrollo de nuevas orientaciones en los estudios culturales y en cómo se organizan, en relación con los giros discutidos, los nombres de los investigadores y las categorías centrales involucradas. En un segundo paso, doy una lectura minuciosa al contenido latente del libro, lo que considero más importante (ver 2.2). Discuto en este contexto varias cuestiones de política científica, especialmente el tema de las expresiones hegemónicas. En tercer lugar, leo el libro desde el punto de vista crítico de un psicólogo, un sociólogo y un teólogo y muestro los defectos de la perspectiva que BACHMANN-MEDICK tiene desde afuera sobre estas disciplinas. A este respecto, leo el libro de nuevo y brindo una crítica de la calidad del rendimiento científico del autor (ver 3). Finalmente, menciono las razones por las cuales no recomiendo la lectura de este libro (ver 4).
