Review: Sandra Gruner-Domić (2005). Latinas in Deutschland. Eine ethnologische Studie zu Migration, Fremdheit und Identität

Abstract

Anhand biographischer Interviews untersucht Sandra GRUNER-DOMIĆ die Migration lateinamerikanischer Frauen nach Deutschland und versucht, die Handlungen und Entscheidungen der Migrantinnen auf der Basis der dargestellten Biographien und Lebensentwürfe nachzuvollziehen. Darüber hinaus wird die Frage der Identität der Frauen als Lateinamerikanerinnen in Deutschland aufgeworfen und deren Einbindung in persönliche Netzwerke thematisiert. GRUNER-DOMIĆ kommt zu dem Schluss, dass persönliche Netzwerke und Beziehungen sowohl für die Entscheidung zur Migration als auch für die Entwicklung der Identität im Zuwanderungsland eine entscheidende Rolle spielen. Insgesamt leistet GRUNER-DOMIĆ mit ihrer Arbeit einen wichtigen Beitrag, um die Forschungslücke bezüglich der Situation lateinamerikanischer Frauen in Deutschland aufzuarbeiten.

On the basis of biographical interviews Sandra GRUNER DOMIĆ examines the migration of Latin American women to Germany. She tries to reconstruct the actions and decisions of the women in order to make them comprehensible. She also discusses the identity of the women as Latin Americans in Germany, and their integration in personal networks. GRUNER DOMIĆ concludes that personal networks and relations play a crucial role both in the decision to migrate and in the development of identity in the new country. All in all, GRUNER DOMIĆ’s study is interesting to read and helps to fill the research gap concerning the situation of Latin American women in Germany.

A base de entrevistas biográficas, Sandra GRUNER DOMIĆ examina la emigración de las mujeres latinoamericanas a Alemania. Trata de reconstruir las acciones y las decisiones de las mujeres para hacerlas comprensibles. También discute sobre la identidad de las mujeres latinoamericanas en Alemania y de su integración en redes personales. GRUNER DOMIĆ llega a la conclusión de que las redes personales y los parientes juegan un papel crucial tanto en la decisión de emigrar como en el desarrollo de la identidad en el nuevo país. El estudio de GRUNER DOMIĆ es, sobretodo, interesante de leer y ayuda a satisfacer la ausencia de investigación con respecto a la situación de las mujeres latinoamericanas en Alemania.
