Review Essay: Die Geburt der (technischen) Netze aus den Vorstellungen von Subjektivität

Abstract

Tanja PAULITZ untersucht aus einer konstruktivistischen Mikroperspektive Technikentwicklungsprozesse im Feld der Vernetzungstechnologien. Das Kernthema der innovativen Studie ist die Bestimmung des Verhältnisses von (technischer) Vernetzung und Subjektivität. Vernetzung und Subjektivierung stehen dabei nicht in einem Verhältnis instrumenteller Nutzung, sondern in einer produktiven Wechselbeziehung. PAULITZ' Arbeit nimmt eine Herstellungsperspektive ein, die ihr Hauptaugenmerk einerseits auf die Frage nach der sozialen Konstruktion von Subjektivität im Internet und andererseits aber auch auf die Subjektivitätskonzepte richtet, die der Konstruktion des Netzes – und den darin inhärenten produktiven Machtwirkungen – zugrunde liegen. Die Pointe des Buches liegt in dem Versuch, Vernetzungstechnologien im Sinne FOUCAULTs als Technologien des Selbst zu begreifen.

From a constructivist micro perspective, Tanja PAULITZ takes an innovative view of processes of technological development in the field of Internet construction. The author underlines how technological networking and subjectivity are two entities that need further examination. Further, the interrelation between technological networking and subjectivation (FOUCAULT) is seen as mutually productive rather than instrumental. PAULITZ's book first raises the question of how subjectivity is socially constructed through the internet. Second, PAULITZ asks how concepts of subjectivity shape the process of Internet construction. Third, by connecting the technologies of networking with FOUCAULT's concept of technologies of the self, the book opens a new perspective on the productive effects power has in the process of socio-technological networking.

Tanja PAULITZ, desde una perspectiva micro y constructivista, presenta una innovadora visión del proceso de desarrollo tecnológico en el terreno de la construcción de internet. La autora enfatiza cómo la producción de redes tecnológicas y la subjetividad son dos entidades que necesitan un amplio examen. En ese sentido, la interrelación entre las mencionadas entidades es conceptualizada como mutuamente productiva antes que instrumental. En primer lugar, el libro de PAULITZ arranca con la cuestión de cómo la subjetividad es socialmente construida a través de internet. En segundo lugar, la autora se pregunta cómo los conceptos de subjetividad conforman el proceso de construcción de internet. En tercer lugar, el libro que nos ocupa abre una nueva perspectiva sobre los efectos productivos que el poder tiene en el proceso socio-técnico de generación de redes conectando las mencionadas tecnologías de producción de redes con el concepto FOUCAULTiano de "tecnologías del yo".
