Critical Discourse Analysis, Description, Explanation, Causes: Foucault's Inspiration Versus Weber's Perspiration

Abstract

In dem Beitrag wird aufgezeigt, dass dem FOUCAULTschen Gouvernementalitätsansatz eine teleologische Denkweise unterliegt: letztlich wird hier als Ziel menschlichen Handelns die kontinuierliche Steigerung der Vernunft angenommen. Auf dieser Vernunft basieren moralische Urteile, insbesondere Urteile über politische und rechtliche Handlungen. Diese teleologische Denkweise führt in der sozialhistorischen Analyse nicht einfach nur zur Anwendung dreier Analyseformen: Beschreibung, Erklärung sowie Identifizierung von Ursachen und Gründen, sondern vielmehr auch zu einer Kritik und in dieser Form zu einer unangemessen Vermengung der drei Elemente der sozialhistorischen Analyse einerseits sowie politischer, durch das telelogische Denken eingebrachter Kritik andererseits. In diesem Beitrag wird mit Bezug auf WEBERs methodologische Position gezeigt, dass die an FOUCAULT anschließende kritische Diskursanalyse die bessere Tradition der drei benannten Analyseelemente in verschiedener Weise zugunsten der teleologischen Denkweise aufgibt

The FOUCAULTian governmentality approach, in relying on a teleology—the ultimate purpose of human endeavour is the quest for ever-growing human reason, a reason that is the universal basis of moral judgements, especially moral judgements about political and legal actions—leads not to description, explanation and the possible identification of causes, but to critique, to the inappropriate conflation of, on the one hand, description, explanation and the identification of causes with, on the other, political criticisms sourced in the teleology. Drawing on some of WEBER's methodological insights, an argument is developed that critical discourse analysis, in taking on the FOUCAULTian approach, gives up the best traditions of description, explanation and the identification of causes in favour of the expression, in many different forms, of the teleology.

La aproximación FOUCAULTiana a la cuestión de la gubernamentalidad, en la que subyace, de hecho, una aproximación teleológica – el último propósito del esfuerzo humano es la búsqueda de una siempre creciente razón humana, razón que será la base universal de los juicios morales, especialmente de los que tienen que ver con acciones políticas y legales – no conduce a una posible identificación, descripción y explicación de causas, sino a la crítica y al conflicto inapropiado con, por un lado, la descripción, explicación e identificación de causas y, por otro, con la crítica política de origen teleológico. A partir de algunas aportaciones metodológicas esbozadas por Max WEBER, en este texto se arguye que el análisis crítico del discurso, en su versión foucaultiana, abandona la mejor tradición de descripción, explicación e identificación de causas para favorecer la expression, a través de diversas formas, de una dimension teleológica.
