Not "Anything Goes." A Critical Assessment of Constructionism and Its Misinterpretation: a Comment on Carl Ratner's "Epistemological, Social, and Political Constructionism"

Abstract

Dieser Artikel beschäftigt sich mit der Wahrnehmung von Alltagserleben. Ziel ist es, komplexe Prozesse wie die Organisation des Sozialen, die Ursprünge von Ungleichheit und Ungerechtigkeit sowie die individuelle und kollektive Teilhabe und Verantwortung in solchen Prozessen zu verstehen, wobei dem Umgang mit den Rechten von Kindern besondere Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wird. Die Identifikation des Wissen-Organisation-Identität-Subsystems, das menschliche Entwicklung vorantreibt, und dessen Verankerung in Philosophie, Physik und Biologie dient als konzeptueller Rahmen der Studie. Rückgreifend auf diesen Rahmen wird das westliche positivistische Modell der Wissensproduktion kritisiert, konkreter der Umgang mit Macht, die Rolle juristischer Subsysteme und das Ethikverständnis in diesem Modell. Danach werden die Rechte von Kindern unter einer umfassenderen Perspektive diskutiert, für die neue konzeptuelle Annäherungen erforderlich sind.

First, the article discusses some popular confusion caused by a superficial (and extreme) interpretation of the constructionist meta-theoretical position. Second, a number of versions of critical realism are discussed as an alternative which is to be respected, but may be critiqued as being prone to the (ideological) presupposition that some entities are "beyond construction." Third, the more severe problems of constructionist meta-theory are sketched and criticized: i.e., the implications of a psychology without subject and a notion of cultural practice that denies any kind of agency to its participants. Finally, and to invite future projects, a case is made for a pragmatist refinement of the constructionist position.

El artículo discute primero una popular confusión causada por la superficial y extrema interpretación de la posición construccionista metateórica. En segundo lugar, se discuten varias versiones del realismo crítico como alternativas ha ser respetadas pero pueden ser criticadas en tanto propensas a la presuposición (ideológica) de que algunas entidades están "mas allá de la construcción". Luego se esbozan y critican los problemas mas graves de la metateoría construccionista, i.e, las implicaciones de una psicología sin sujeto y una noción de la práctica cultural que niega cualquier clase de acción a sus participantes. Finalmente, y para invitar a proyectos nuevos, se argumenta para el enriquecimiento pragmático de la psoción construccionista.
