Abstract

Das hier besprochene Buch ist von besonderem Interesse für diejenigen, die sich mit Bildung, Kultur und Interdisziplinarität beschäftigen. Hervorgegangen ist Culture and Education aus einer deutsch-schwedischen Zusammenarbeit, die das Verstehen des Zusammenhangs von Bildung und Kultur zum Ziel hatte. Zur Veranschaulichung greifen der Autor und die Autorin – abgesehen von einigen Ausnahmen – auf in Deutschland oder Schweden gewonnenes empirisches Material zurück. Culture and Education besteht aus zwei Teilen: der erste Teil beschäftigt sich mit Theorien und Konzepten, der zweite mit ethnographischer Forschung und Bildungspraxis. In kurzen Kapiteln wird eine große Bandbreite an Ansätzen für die theoretische Beziehung zwischen Kultur und Bildung vorgestellt, außerdem Interpretationen aufgrund von ethnographischer Forschung zu formalen und informellen Bildungsprozessen. Es wird dabei auch versucht zu zeigen, auf welche Weise konkrete Bezüge zwischen Bildung und Kultur hergestellt werden können, wobei hierbei einiges an Konstruktionsarbeit auf der Seite der Lesenden verbleibt. Am Ende dieser Besprechung wird die in Culture and Education geleistete Arbeit mit Blick auf die internationale Zusammenarbeit im Rahmen von Bildungsforschung diskutiert.

This is a book that will be of particular interest to those with interests in education, culture and interdisciplinarity. The book is the product of a German-Swedish collaboration and is introduced as a contribution to understanding the relation be­tween education and culture. To this end, the authors tend to draw on empirical data from German and Swedish contexts, though there are exceptions. The book is presented in two parts—part one covers theory and concepts; part two covers ethnographic research and educational prac­tice. The short chapters cover a wide range of approaches to theorising education-culture relation­ships, whilst there is also a mix of interpretations of the ethnographic research that covers formal and informal education. The book goes some way towards demonstrating how readings of education and culture can be inter-related, though this calls for some work on the part of the reader. The book is finally discussed in relation to collaborative international education research.

Este es un libro que será de particular interés para aquellos con intereses en educación, cultura e interdisciplinariedad. El libro es producto de una colaboración Sueco-Alemana y se presenta como una contribución al entendimiento de la relación entre educación y cultura. Para este fin, los autores se basan en datos empíricos de los contextos de Alemania y Suecia, aunque hay excepciones. El libro contiene dos partes, la primera aborda la teoría y los conceptos; la segunda parte abarca la investigación etnográfica y la práctica educativa. Los capítulos cortos cubren un rango amplio de enfoques para teorizar las relaciones educación-cultura, mientras que hay también una mezcla de interpretaciones de la investigación etnográfica que abarca la educación formal y la informal. El libro se encamina hacia demostrar como pueden inter-relacionarse las lecturas sobre educación y cultura, aunque se apela a cierto trabajo por parte del lector. Al final se discute el libro en relación con la colaboración internacional en la investigación educativa.
