Ist ein:e Politiker:in eine:r von uns, wird diese Person mich und meine Interessen im Parlament vertreten? Nicht selten sehen sich Parlamentarier:innen mit dem Vorwurf konfrontiert, sie hätten sich von Belangen und Einstellungen der Bevölkerung zu sehr entfernt, um noch als wirkliche Volksvertreter:innen verstanden zu werden. Ein erster Blick in den neu gewählten Bundestag zeigt, dass Akademiker:innen dort überproportional stark vertreten sind und Frauen zugleich deutlich unterrepräsentiert. Weitere Differenzen, sei es etwa im Hinblick auf spezifische Einstellungen oder eine institutionelle Einbindung, sind zumeist nicht bekannt. Dieser Beitrag geht der Frage auf den Grund, inwiefern sich im Hinblick auf sozio-demografische Merkmale, ihre institutionelle Einbindung in Kirchen, Gewerkschaften sowie Umweltschutzgruppen und spezifische Einstellungen die Kandidierenden für den Deutschen Bundestag von der deutschen Bevölkerung unterscheiden.... view less

If a politician is one of us, will that person represent me and my interests in parliament? It is not uncommon for parliamentarians to be accused of having distanced themselves too much from the concerns and attitudes of the people to be understood as people‘s representatives. A first glance at the newly elected German Bundestag shows that academics are disproportionately well represented and women are underrepresented. Further differences, for example in terms of specific attitudes or institutional integration, are mostly unknown. This article explores the question, to what extent there are differences in terms of socio-demographic characteristics and their institutional involvement in churches, trade unions and environmental groups. In addition, the article examines the extent to which specific attitudes of candidates for the German Bundestag differ from those of the German population.... view less
