The article focuses on a piece of research shared by Gerard X Reyes that is inspired by the theorem of sex work. This sharing by the choreographer, dancer, teacher, certified sexological bodyworker, intimacy coordinator and Montreal kiki ballroom scene pioneer is discursively negotiated in the sense of a dance studies performance analysis. The process of attributing meaning is based on a Foucaultian discourse analysis. Although the generated model of viewing takes place during the performance, it is always only an analysis of the performance that generates its own discourse. It is assumed that representations and references to sex work can be questioned in relation to the body and in the process of its materialization, with both being expressed in embodiment processes as well as modes of representation. The focus of the analysis is on the generation of meaning in which Reyes’s performance is considered as an aesthetic and ethical situation in the context of the concepts of eroticism, passion, desire and the categories sex, gender and desire in the theatre space. This leads to the performance being conceptualized as an expression of queer desire.... view less
