What comes after relocation? A comic about safe return and its alternatives

Abstract

In this comic, three relocated people meet in Berlin: the activist Svetlana, the artist Roz, and the journalist Yousef. They all had to leave their countries due to continuing restrictions to their work and personal freedom. Now that they participate in a temporary relocation program, they struggle with the question of what comes after the end of their funded relocation period. While Roz has already decided to go back home, Svet is unsure and is in the middle of a complex decision-making process. Yousef, by contrast, already knows that he will not go back and is looking for alternatives. The comic leads the reader through an exchange among the three, mentioning some of the uncertainties they are facing, the options they are considering, and the tools that help(ed) them in the decision-making, preparation, and planning process. The most important key words, concepts, and tools are briefly explained in a "glossary". Dans cette bande dessinée, trois personnes relocalisées se retrouvent à Berlin: Svet, activiste, Roz, artiste et Youssef, journaliste. Ils ont tous dû quitter leur pays pour avoir subi des restrictions durables dans leur travail et leur liberté personnelle. Maintenant qu'ils participent à un programme de relocalisation temporaire, sont confrontés à la question de savoir ce qu’il adviendra et à l’issue de leur période de relocalisation financée. Si Roz par exemple a déjà pris sa décision de rentrer dans son pays, Svet hésite encore, aux prises avec un processus complexe de prise de décision. Youssef, pour sa part, sait déjà qu’il ne rentrera pas et recherche des alternatives. La BD nous accompagne dans un échange entre les trois protagonistes, abordant certaines des incertitudes vécues, des options envisagées et les outils qui les ont aidés (et les aident encore) dans le processus de préparation et de planification. Tuvieron que abandonar sus países debido a las continuas restricciones a su trabajo y libertad personal. Ahora que participan en un programa de reubicación temporal se debaten frente la pregunta de qué sucederá después de que finalice su período de reubicación financiada. Si bien Roz ya ha decidido regresar a casa, Svet no está segura y se encuentra en medio de un complejo proceso de toma de decisiones. Yousef, por el contrario, ya sabe que no volverá y está buscando alternativas. El cómic nos lleva a través de un intercambio entre las tres personas, mencionando algunas de las incertidumbres que enfrentan, las opciones que consideran y herramientas que les han ayudado y ayudan en el proceso de preparación y planificación.
