En el presente artículo nos proponemos estudiar las maneras en que el Estado chileno responde a las huelgas laborales mediante la acción poli-cial, analizando 552 huelgas entre 2010 y 2015 registradas por el Observatorio de Huelgas La-borales (uah-coes). Los resultados sugieren que la decisión sobre a qué huelgas enviar policías tiene un carácter político-económico destinado a salvaguardar el control y el orden productivo. Específicamente, la presencia policial aumenta en huelgas realizadas en posiciones estratégicas de la producción económica en Chile, que involucran un mayor número de trabajadores, que deman-dan un mayor control del proceso de trabajo, y que actúan disruptivamente. Por otra parte, una vez que la policía está presente, sus acciones son más violentas cuando aumenta el número de trabajadores involucrados, se utilizan tácticas disruptivas, y hay presencia de subcontratados.... view less

This article studies the responses of the Chilean state to labor strikes through police actions. It analyzes 552 strikes taking place between 2010 and 2015 and collected by the Labor Strike Ob-servatory (uah-coes). The results suggest that the decision of whether or not to send policemen to protest sites is shaped by political-economic considerations aimed at protecting the produc-tion of companies. Specifically, the chances of police presence increase for strikes taking place in strategic economic areas, involving a larger number of protesters, demanding workers’ control of the productive process and employ-ing disruptive tactics (beyond the strike itself ). Once policemen are present, they act more violently the more workers involved, the more disruptive their tactics and the more outsourc-ing workers are among the protesters.... view less
