Die Theorie der Rationalen Wahl als Erklärungsansatz der Multilokalisierungsentscheidung

Abstract

Im Beitrag wird die Anwendbarkeit der in den Sozialwissenschaften prominenten Theorie der Rationalen Wahl auf die Erklärung von Entscheidungen zu multilokalem Wohnen diskutiert. Hierfür werden zunächst die zentralen Grundannahmen dargelegt, wonach Akteure danach streben, ihre Präferenzen und unter gegebenen positiven und negativen Restriktionen optimal zu realisieren. Daraufhin wird die Erklärung der individuellen Multilokalisierungsentscheidung mit einer werterwartungstheoretischen Variante der Theorie skizziert. Um darüber hinaus der sozialen Einbettung residentieller Mobilitätsentscheidungen gerecht zu werden, wird die Multilokalisierung schließlich als strategisches Verhandlungsproblem in (Paar-)Haushalten diskutiert. Hierfür werden entstehende Dilemmata sowie typische Lösungsstrategien aufgezeigt, die auf Vertrauen, zusätzlichen Angeboten und normativen Vorstellungen basieren.

In this article, discussion focuses on the applicability of the prominent theory of rational choice as an explanation of decision-making on multilocal living. Attention is first directed towards the basic assumptions according to which actors strive to optimally realize their preferences under given positive and negative restrictions. Then an explanation of individual decision-making on multilocal living is outlined using a value-expectancy variant of the theory. In addition, in order to capture the social embeddedness of residential mobility decisions, multilocalization is finally discussed as a problem of strategic negotiation in (couple) households. Here, emerging dilemmas and typical solution strategies based on trust, additional offers and normative ideas are presented.
