Der Ausbildungsmarkt in Nordrhein-Westfalen ist durch wachsende Passungsprobleme gekennzeichnet. Während immer mehr Ausbildungsplätze nicht besetzt werden können, verharrt die Zahl der Jugendlichen ohne Ausbildungsplatz auf hohem Niveau. Mit Bezug auf die Wert-Erwartungs-Theorie, Berufswahltheorien und die Identitätspsychologie wird untersucht, warum Jugendliche Ausbildungsangebote nicht nutzen. Die empirische Basis bilden neben amtlichen Statistiken Befragungen durch das Bundesinstitut für Berufsbildung. Demnach beurteilen die Jugendlichen Ausbildungsberufe primär danach, ob diese ihre soziale Identität stärken. Berufen, in denen traditionell viele Personen mit niedrigen Schulabschlüssen arbeiten, unterstellen sie, dies nicht leisten zu können, zumal sie selbst immer häufiger über höhere Schulabschlüsse verfügen. Somit bleiben gerade in jenen Berufen viele Ausbildungsangebote ungenutzt, die auch schulisch Leistungsschwächeren Chancen bieten.... view less
The vocational training market in North Rhine-Westphalia is characterized by growing matching problems involving misfit between young adults and apprenticeship positions. The vocational training market in North Rhine-Westphalia is characterized by growing matching problems involving misfit between young adults and apprenticeship positions. While more and more apprenticeships cannot be filled, the number of young people without an apprenticeship position remains high. By relating to value-expectation theory, career choice theories and identity psychology, we examined why adolescents do not take advantage of apprenticeship offers. Besides official statistics, the empirical basis includes surveys distributed by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training. According to the empirical data, young people primarily assess skilled occupations by evaluating if the occupations strengthen their social identity. They assume that occupations traditionally filled by individuals with low academic credentials are unable to do so, especially when they themselves had obtained increasingly higher academic credentials. As a result many training positions remain unfilled, especially in occupations that offer apprenticeship opportunities for those with limited academic credentials.... view less
