The article analyzes subordination & domination in the workplace, with a special focus on management's use of disciplinary powers in order to subordinate workers. According to the discussion, understanding how this type of domination functions is at the core of understanding how the tremendous changes in the labor market over recent years has affected the relationship between employers & employees. Much of this research is based on a case study regarding the telecommunications industry in Argentina. While the direct control of employees through disciplinary action, or even the threat of such action, is the major focus of the study, it is also important to remain aware of all of the symbolic & modern forms that control of employees can take, many of which are little studied & little understood.... view less
