"Political Correctness" - ideologischer Code, Feindbild und Stigmawort der Rechten

Abstract

'Seit Mitte der 90er Jahre wurden der Begriff 'political correctness' und ein Metadiskurs über 'political correctness' in österreichischen und deutschen Medien- und Politikdiskursen etabliert. Vor allem der Metadiskurs, der sich mit den ideologischen Inhalten und realpolitischen Auswirkungen auseinandersetzt, erfüllt in deutschsprachigen Diskursen spezifische Funktionen, von denen in erster Linie Konservative und Rechtsextreme profitieren. Begriff und Metadiskurs werden hier nur diskursanalytisch und ideologiekritisch untersucht. Während der Begriff 'political correctness' als ideologischer Code und Stigmawort eingesetzt wird, produziert der Metadiskurs ein rechtes bzw. rechtsextremes Feindbild. Unter dem Phänomen 'political correctness' wird generell das Spektrum emanzipatorischer und linker Theorie bzw. Praxis subsumiert und diffamiert. Gleichzeitig modifiziert der Metadiskurs die Bedeutung rechtsextremer und revisionistischer Inhalte, indem diesen unter Berufung auf die Meinungsfreiheit als vermeintlich notwendigen Tabubrüchen in öffentlichen Diskursen Raum gegeben werden müsse.' 'Since the mid-1990s the term 'political correctness' and the meta discourse about 'political correctness' entered Austria's and Germany's media und political discourses. Above all, the meta discourse, which tackles the ideological contents and political impacts, serves specific functions in German speaking countries which benefit above all conservatives and the extreme right. Discourse analysis and ideological criticism form the framework for examining the term and the meta discourse. While the term 'political correctness' is used as ideological code and stigma word, the meta discourse creates negative images which serve the ideological goals of the right and the extreme right. The phenomenon 'political correctness' is abused to defame the spectrum of emancipatory and leftist theory as well as praxis. Simultaneously, the meta discourse manages to modify the significance of extreme right and revisionist contents; it grants them a space in public discourse by arguing, in the name of freedom of speech, that they are necessary to promote a full public discourse free of taboos.'
