La relación entre economía y política es un tema recurrente desde los moralistas británicos hasta nuestros días, pero durante las últimas décadas ha emergido con renovado énfasis. Este fenómeno académico se debe a dos motivos interrelacionados: por un lado, debido al enriquecimiento del objeto de estudio desde la perspectiva de la teoría de los ciclos, y por la incorporación de la teoría de la elección racional; y por otro lado, a causa de la necesidad de contar con paradigmas alternativos para explicar la transición económica y política que sufrieron varios regímenes en años recientes. En este trabajo se recogen los aportes fundamentales a este campo de estudio, tratando de construir un mecanismo de explicación que permita analizar la relación entre economía y política en la transición mexicana. Partiendo de casos similares como el chileno y el español, se pretende analizarla desde una perspectiva funcional integral. The relationship between the economy and the polity has been a recurrent theme since the British moralists until the present, but during the last decades it has re-emerged with renewed emphasis. This academic phenomenon is due to two interrelated reasons: on one hand, to the new light shed on the subject by the cycle and the rational choice theoretical approaches; and, on the other hand, to the need of having alternative paradigms to explain the economic and political transition which various regimes underwent in recent years. This añide reviews the most impoñant contributions to this field of study, trying to construct a mechanism to explain and analyse the relationship between the economy and the polity in the Mexican transition. In the light of similar cases, such as the Chilean and the Spanish, we examine the Mexican case from a integral functional perspective.
