Visionenverlust und Visionenverzicht: dominante und frauenpolitische Bilder von 'Zukunft' vor dem Jahr 2000

Abstract

'Der Datumswechsel 1999/2000 hat in der christlich-abendländischen Kultur stets eine besondere Bedeutung gehabt; ein Datum jenseits des Jahres 1999 evoziert 'Zukunft'. Wenige Monate vor dem hoch mythisierten Ereignis ist die öffentliche Diskussion zwar von unzähligen Verweisen aufs Millennium durchzogen, doch zielen sie vor allem auf seine Vermarktung. Während der öffentliche Diskurs mit vielen Worten 'lärmende Leere' produziert, schweigen die UtopistInnen. Die wortreiche, visionslose Debatte zum Thema 'Zukunft' ist erklärungsbedürftig. Mit Foucault kann sie als eine 'Diskursexplosion' interpretiert werden, in der das Schweigen als Teil des Diskurses fungiert. In ihm wird die bislang in der Utopie unproblematische 'Zukunft' problematisiert, sie wird zum Anlass von Sorge. Die wortreiche Leere verdeutlicht die aktuelle Schwierigkeit, angesichts der globalen Problemlagen noch angemessen utopisch zu denken. Eine exemplarische Untersuchung des frauenpolitischen Diskussionszusammenhangs, der in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten wesentlich zur Erneuerung des Genres Utopie beigetragen hat, verdeutlicht dass Utopien für das 21. Jahrhundert global sowie selbst- und machtkritisch entworfen und gedeutet werden müssen.' (Autorenreferat)

'The European Christian culture has always created myths about the millennium. 'Future' was associated to a time beyond the year 1999. A few month before the mystique date public discussion refers continuously to the millennium, but dominantly as a strategy to commercialize it. While public discourse produces a 'noisy void', utopian thinkers keep silent. This verbose, visionless debate has to be explained. Following Foucault, it could be interpreted as a 'discourse explosion', silence functioning as a part of it. 'Future', up to now not a problematic aspect of utopias, becomes a problem and a concern. The verbose void illustrates the difficulty to conceptualize adequate utopian thinking today. Politics and political science of the new women's movement are discussed in order to show that utopias have to be global, reflective, and critical of power to be of use in the 21st century.'
