Este artículo aborda el discurso de la prensa escrita para encontrar evidencias sobre los elementos lingüísticos y semióticos para recrear la realidad, funcionar como intermediaria entre diversos actores sociales o convertirse, ella misma, en actor político. El análisis abarca todos los materiales publicados entre el 3 y el 7 de julio del 2000 en diez periódicos de circulación nacional, en torno a los resultados electorales: 838 notas, editoriales, artículos, columnas, entrevistas y reportajes. La selección obedece a que, luego de las elecciones presidenciales en México, se consiguió captar masivamente la atención de la opinión pública, al suponer que con este resultado se hacía posible la alternancia política en México y terminaban siete décadas de hegemonía del Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI). This paper tries to find evidences of linguistic and semiotic elements of written press discourse and the way it recreates reality, acts as intermediary between social actors or turns itself into a political actor. The analysis covers all the materials published from July 3 to 7, 2000, in ten national newspapers, dealing with the results of the elections: 838 news, editorials, articles, interviews and reports. The selection is due to the fact that as a result of July 2000 elections, public opinion assigned great interest to this fact, mainly because it was thought that alternancy in the presidency was to become a reality in Mexico, thus ending 70 years of hegemonical power of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI).
