Based on the authoritarian theory of the press by Fred S. Siebert, the article analyzes the performance realized by the communication mass media in authoritarian regimes. The theoretical model is applied to the system in the Mexican media where the media institutions have kept a close symbiotic relationship with the public power and have been a loyal reflection of the structures of authoritarian power in function.
