El artículo explora el vínculo entre los derechos humanos y los movimientos sociales a partir del caso del movimiento de parteras autónomas en México. Aunque el término "nuevos movimientos sociales", propio de la década de 1980, fue abandonado por ser considerado dicotómico, se argumenta que la cuestión entre derechos humanos y movimientos sociales sigue siendo actual, sobre todo en el ámbito de las políticas de desarrollo. Efectivamente, el caso de las parteras autónomas en México despliega la dimensión de los derechos humanos como terreno de disputa relacionado con cuestiones de clase y etnicidad. Basándose en fuentes múltiples y trabajo de campo, la conceptualización de las parteras autónomas como movimiento social -que se extiende hacia una campaña a nivel latinoamericano sobre los derechos humanos de los partos- evidencia el desafío implícito en la vigencia de la percepción dominante sobre los derechos reproductivos en el ámbito del desarrollo.... view less

This article explores the link between human rights and social movements based on the case of the autonomous midwives in Mexico. Even though the term "new social movements", used during the 1980s, was abandoned because it was considered dichotomous, the text argues that the existing question between human rights and social movements remains current, especially in the context of development politics. Indeed, the case of autonomous midwives in Mexico unfolds the human rights dimension as a contested field in relation with issues of class and ethnicity. Based upon multiple sources and field work, the conceptualization of autonomous midwives as a social movement -which extends into a Latin American campaign on human rights at childbirth-, demonstrates the challenge implicit in the validity of the dominant perspective on reproductive rights in the development’s realm.... view less
