'Using data of the German Population Policy Acceptance Study (PPAS) 2003, the authors analyse fertility intentions of childless individuals and their motives against having a first child. They find individual value orientations as a main cause for differences between childless individuals with fertility intentions and those without. Additionally there are fundamental differences between the new and the old German Länder in what concerns the dimension and the structure of fertility intentions as well as motives against having own children.'
