Der praxeologische Ansatz einer Neuen Geschichte der Wahlen ermöglicht einen neuen Blick auf die alte Frage, warum das Wahlrecht im 19. Jahrhundert zwar immer mehr Gruppen wie Armen, Angehörigen anderer Ethnien oder Ungebildeten zugesprochen wurde, von wenigen Ausnahmen abgesehen jedoch Frauen ohne Stimmrecht blieben. Die Praxis des Wählens und die Materialität des Wahlaktes, so meine These, verdichteten den Wahlakt als Herrschaftsakt der "Männlichkeit" und determinierten die Exklusion der Frauen. Erst eine Welle von Reformbemühungen und damit einhergehend ein verändertes Körperregime konnten diese Konstellation aufbrechen und das Setting moderner Wahlen neu ordnen. The praxeological approach of a new history of elections allows us to take a fresh look at the old question of why suffrage was granted to ever more groups in society in the 19th century, such as the poor, those belonging to other ethnicities and the uneducated, while, with a few exceptions, women were still excluded. It is my thesis that the practice of voting and the materiality of the act of voting condensed that act into one of the power of "masculinity", which was determinative for the exclusion of women. Only a wave of reform efforts and, concomitantly, a new body regime were able to break up this constellation and to reorganize the setting for modern elections.
