Alfred Lorenzers Konzeption einer tiefenhermeneutischen Kulturanalyse: Beiträge zu einer kritischen Theorie subjektiven Bilderlebens und bildvermittelter Sozialisation

Abstract

Dieser Beitrag will einen kritisch-psychologischen Ansatz auf theoretischer wie empirischer Ebene in die aktuelle bildwissenschaftliche Diskussion einbringen. Die sogenannte tiefenhermeneutische Kulturanalyse wurde von Alfred Lorenzer und seinen SchülerInnen mit Bezug auf kritische Theorie und psychoanalytische Sozialpsychologie entwickelt. Die Besonderheit bildhafter Kommunikation stellt hierbei einen wichtigen Fokus des Erkenntnisinteresses dar. Sowohl emotionale Qualitäten subjektiven Bilderlebens als auch Fragen nach der Bedeutung von Bildern für Sozialisation und Identitätsentwürfe werden in analytisch schlüssiger Art und Weise fassbar; gleichzeitig gelingt es, dem Phänomen Bild und seinen vielen Aspekten gegenüber offen zu bleiben. Eine besondere Stärke besteht in einer kontinuierlichen gesellschaftskritischen Perspektive. Diese schließt die Frage mit ein, unter welchen Bedingungen Bilder das Bewusstsein vernebeln und zu Vorurteils- und Stereotypenbildung beitragen. Dies geht dann Hand in Hand geht mit einer Einschränkung von Bewusstheit und Erlebnisfähigkeit von konkreten Individuen. Zu Illustration wird Bezug genommen auf die Punk-Subkultur und ein Bild von Peter Paul Rubens . Ergänzt wird dies durch Auszüge aus einer Forschungsarbeit zur Sozialisation durch bildhafte Kommunikationsformen im Rahmen von Shopping Malls und kommerziellen Erlebniswelten.

This article wants to contribute to studies of visual culture or Bildwissenschaft on a theoretical and empirical level by introducing a certain approach from the field of critical psychology. Alfred Lorenzer and others developed a framework for the hermeneutic analysis of visual communication including psychodynamic aspects. For this purpose, they combine elements of critical theory with psychoanalytical social psychology and focus on the genuine qualities of visual communication. This provides a precise analytical understanding especially of its emotional qualities and allows to ask about the roles visual communication might play during socialization und identity development. At the same time, Lorenzer's framework remains flexible and open towards this topic and its various aspects. A special emphasis is laid on continuously pursuing a perspective of social criticism. This includes interrogating under which conditions visual communication can confuse clear thinking and support stereotypes and prejudices. On the side of the individual, such deficiency leads to losses of functions of consciousness as well as to restraints concerning the vividness and openness of emotional experience. To illustrate all this, I will look at subcultural expressions of Punk and contemplate a picture by the artist Peter Paul Rubens. This will be completed by a research report on socializing effects carried by elements of visual communication to be found in shopping malls and urban entertainment centers.
