"Zwei und zwei macht vier." Über Indoktrination und Erziehung

Abstract

Die philosophische Debatte über Kriterien für das Vorliegen von Indoktrination bezieht sich auf das Problem, wie der Umgang mit Doktrinen (d.h. Lehren, die epistemische und normative Vorgaben machen für die Auseinandersetzung mit der Welt und mit sich selbst) zu konzipieren und zu rechtfertigen ist. Es geht um empirische und normative Fragen der Vermittlung, des Erwerbs, der Nutzung und der Rechtfertigung von Doktrinen in Form von Systemen von Praktiken, heimlichen oder offenen Lehrplänen, institutionalisierten Lehrordnungen und -ämtern und die in ihnen entwickelten Vorstellungen über Individuen oder Gruppen und deren Entwicklung. Ausgehend von der Diskussion methodologischer Problemvorgaben, einer angemessenen Analyse des Begriffs der Indoktrination und seines Oppositionsbegriffs (Erziehung) sowie von Schwierigkeiten, die mit den wichtigsten klassischen konzeptuellen und normativen Abgrenzungsversuchen einhergehen, wird in diesem Beitrag eine revidierte Indoktrinationskonzeption entwickelt und auf den Prüfstand gestellt.

The philosophical debate about the conceptual scope of indoctrination develops criteria to clarify under which conditions agents are justified to accept or reject epistemological and normative claims made on the basis of doctrines. The debate is concerned with empirical and normative questions about the teaching, the acquisition, the use, and the justification of doctrines which are incorporated in systems of practices, (hidden) curricula, institutionalized professional standards and assumptions concerning the adequate development of individuals and groups. Based on a discussion of methodological problems of an adequate analysis of the concept of indoctrination and its conceptual opposite (education) as well as on a reconstruction of major difficulties to delineate both concepts, this contribution develops and puts to test a revised conception of indoctrination.
